Why Sushmita Sen joined Twitter

India's first Miss Universe turned actor Sushmita Sen who has not been seen in films for nearly two-and-half years has been active on the micro-blogging site Twitter for over a year now.  

The actor who last played Anil Kapoor's wife in No Problem was averse to having a presence on social media. However she finally took the plunge with her twitter handle @thesushmitasen because she was fed up of being misrepresented by a section of the press.   

What made her bite the bait? About joining Twitter in an interview to www.indiatoday.in she said, "I realised more and more and increasingly that people are reading nonsense and if they've got to know me, they've got to know me in my own words. You may not like me when I say it but at least you know that's me. And therefore I made sure my Twitter account was verified. So people are aware, good, bad or ugly, that's the real thing."


 

 

 

So it was not surprising when just two weeks ago unconfirmed reports about her secret marriage to Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram surfaced, she instantly took to Twitter to clear the air. Akram and Sushmita had met on the sets of Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina, a reality dance show which was broadcast on Colors in 2008.   

Clarifying the rumour Sushmita at the time had said on Twitter, "Hi guys!Been reading about my upcoming wedding with Wasim...ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!!! Goes to show just how irresponsible media can be sumtimes!" She had further tweeted, "Wasim Akram is a friend and will always be one!! He has a wonderful lady in his life...rumors like these are uncalled for n disrespectful! My beautiful people..when I find 'THE ONE'...you'll be the first to know:)) benefits of being my twitter family!! love u all soooooo much!"

For most part Sushmita is happy with her followers/fans on Twitter. She maintains, "I want to thanks all my Twitter fans. All of my fans on Twitter are the best of the lot. You do get some monkeys and all and I keep blocking them out. But mostly I think I have a really good following on twitter."
