WASHINGTON, D.C. - First lady Michelle Obama revealed to stunned colleagues on Saturday that she is a long time avid pageant fan and considers herself downright obsessed with following them. Having been a competitor herself during the early 1980's, she has continued to follow this traditional "sport" of femininity.

"I have never missed a Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss Universe, or Miss America pageant," said Obama during a meeting in Washington about helping reduce inequities in women's salaries in the United States. "In fact, I consider it my biggest passion and am downright obsessed beyond any figments of your imaginations."

Obama also revealed to her audience that she collects statistics on all of the major pageants and follows many young American women as they progress from teen to adult pageantry. "If you're wondering whether any particular state hasn't crowned a former Miss Teen winner as their Miss winner, then I'm your 'go to' gal."

Obama's delight with American pageantry overshadowed the events of the morning. Although she was meeting with numerous high profile business leaders and 16 members of Congress to discuss remedies for bringing American women to parity with men on the salary scale, Obama failed to address her main agenda points.

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California), who attended the meeting, expressed her dismay afterward. "When I asked the first lady what our primary goal should be in raising women's salaries, she replied by asking me whether I had chosen my Top 15 for Miss USA 2011."

Other attendees reported exasperation as well, with many commenting that they did not appreciate Obama devoting half of the meeting to asking participants to name their current state titleholders from the Miss America and Miss USA pageant systems.

Lawmakers hoping to enact legislation promoting increases in women's wages will have to wait at least another year to draft a bill according to government experts. "Michelle Obama's top priority right now is to have June 19th declared Miss USA Day and a national holiday," said a White House spokesperson on condition of anonymity.
