WOMEN’S MONTH | MELCO INVITES FEMALE FIGURES TO ‘BEST I CAN BE’

Melco Resorts & Entertainment hosted Melco Women’s Forum yesterday, with the theme “Best I Can Be,” inviting female figures to give keynote speeches and take part in a forum, all to celebrate Women’s Month.

Describing the forum as a Corporate Social Responsibility measure, Melco said these kinds of events were about creating long-term programs that provide solutions and opportunities for society, including for women’s health and wellbeing.

“Initiatives for women have always been at the forefront of Melco’s Corporate Social Responsibility. Embracing diversity is one of Melco’s guiding principles and we strive to be an equal opportunity employer,” said Lawrence Ho, chairman and CEO of the gaming operator.

“We […] look forward to implementing further women’s initiatives to benefit our colleagues and the community,” Ho added.

The gaming operator invited Ann Osman, Malaysia’s first female professional mixed martial arts fighter, and Julia Morley, chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, as the event’s keynote speakers.

“I feel that we’re already part of Macau. […] Let’s all work together. Slogans are important but the real material matters,” Morley shared during her speech.

The forum was moderated by Lorraine Hahn, and the panelists comprised Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macau Government Tourist Office; Karuna Shisho, board director at Melco; Dominique Mielle, board director at Studio City; Silvia Vanessa Pounce De Leon Sanchez, Miss World 2018 and Kanako Date, Miss Japan 2018, who shared their experiences, both professional and personal.

Mielle, one of the most senior women in the hedge- fund industry, remarked, “how did I survive a world of men? I think there are little traits and skills that you learn along the way.”

“At the root of succeeding as a woman, it has to be the deep conviction that you are as good as most men and likely much better than some of them, and that is statistically undeniable,” she added.
