Natalia Solis

Age: 24 | Height: 5f8 | Victoria, BC

Natalia Solis was born in Cancun, Mexico and is a recent graduate of the University of Victoria where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in WomenLs Studies and Spanish in addition to a minor in Business.

Natalia has a passion for travel and since graduating from university, has visited over 14 countries. She believes that by experiencing other cultures we allow ourselves to understand and embrace diversity. As a result, we are able to make the best decisions for the citizens of our multicultural nation.

A competitive figure skater for eight years, Natalia learned at an early age that it is hard work and dedication and not just talent alone that make an individual successful. She has enjoyed coaching young athletes in various sports and her goal is to begin an athletic scholarship in her hometown of Victoria which would provide financial aid to athletes who otherwise would not be able to afford their athletic pursuits. Natalia is also an avid writer and has just completed her first childrenLs book and hopes to have it published by the end of 2011.

Natalia is truly honored and thankful to be a part of Miss Universe Canada 2011 and wishes each delegate a lifetime of success in her future endeavors.

What would be your gdream jobh in life?

As a recent WomenLs Studies graduate from the University of Victoria and a former competitive athlete, I am a huge advocate of encouraging young women in their athletic pursuits. I am also a strong believer in promoting a healthy body image through athletics for both children and young adults. My dream job in life would be as a motivational speaker, delivering mainly on the topics of positive thinking and encouraging young adults to lead active, healthy lifestyles whilst providing them with the keys to turn their dreams into reality.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

The most interesting and challenging job I have ever had was when I took on the responsibility of coaching a middle school novice rowing team, comprised of twelve and thirteen year old athletes. For many of them it was their first time trying the sport and although some days were very challenging, they showed up to practice each day with huge smiles on their faces and as the season went on, continued to impress me with their positivity and dedication. I was so proud of them as I watched them compete in their first regatta. They were truly an amazing group of young adults and they further confirmed for me that a strong work ethic and a positive attitude will always win in the end.

Where is the most interesting place you have been?

I am an avid traveller and the most interesting place I have been to date has to be Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The people of Brazil are beautiful, the culture is inspiring and the landscape takes your breath away.

What is your philosophy of/in life?

During the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC, I was living right downtown Vancouver and walked to work each morning enjoying the amazing spirit that the games brought to the city. I knew that the Olympic torch had been lit and was near my workplace, and everyday kept telling my co-workers that I had to get down to see it before the games were over. One morning, on my way to work, I lifted my head up as I was walking down the street and there was the Olympic flame, right in front of me! I had walked right by it every morning and never even noticed. ThatLs when I realized that I needed to take time each day, take a deep breath and just enjoy the moment. I now tell myself as often as I can, `Look around you. This is your life. Enjoy
