PH not hosting 2017 Ms. Universe pageant

The Philippines will not host the Miss Universe pageant for a second consecutive year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said Thursday.

During the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism for Development, Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo announced that the Miss Universe 2017 Miss Universe pageant will not take place in the Philippines.

“No Miss Universe this year. Baka next year (Maybe next year),” Teo said.

Earlier, it was disclosed that the Philippines has been offered the hosting rights to the next Miss Universe pageant this November.

The DOT chief explained, however, that it was “too soon”, considering that the country still has to host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit which will also be held in November.

In January this year, the Philippines hosted the Miss Universe 2016 pageant, where 2015 Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines relinquised her crown to Iris Mittenaere of France.
